As the project is designed around the the Curriculum for Excellence, specifically learning about Scottish culture, I have ensured that one of the three lessons is focused on Scottish Pipe Band culture around the world. The lesson will demonstrate the differences in pipe band culture around the world, showing Grade 1 World Pipe Band Champions, Inveraray and District from Scotland; and Grade 4b World Pipe Band Champions, Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band from Malaysia.
I made contact with Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band who have since agreed to become a collaborator with the Pipe Band Drumming in a Box project. Sri Dasmesh will provide videos of band members speaking about their lives, their experiences as members of the only Malaysian Sikh Pipe Band and their experiences and interpretations of Scottish culture.
The lesson will also involve learning about the World Pipe Band Championships and later culminate in learning to play along with Scotland the Brave, the only tune that all the bands play in unison before the announcement of the competition winners, signifying a marriage of cultures from around the world.
